Abstract

Over the past decade, 3D printing (3DP) has been a huge buzz term around the world for a good reason. However, due to the low readiness and limited technology of construction industry, the implementation of 3DP in construction sector still remains low. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the barrier of 3DP in construction industry in Malaysia. In order to achieve this goal, there are three objectives in this study which are to investigate the opportunity of 3DP, barriers of adopting 3DP and strategy to increase implementation rate of 3DP in construction industry in Malaysia. The research method of this study was the distribution of google form questionnaire survey. After the data collection, the data has been analysed with descriptive analysis. The study has identified that labour factor is the most important opportunity of 3DP compared to cost factor and environmental factor. Besides that, lack of knowledge and awareness is the biggest challenge of 3DP to be adopted in construction industry in Malaysia. Lastly, the most critical strategy that can speed up the implementation rate of 3DP in construction industry in Malaysia is trainings and seminars.
