Abstract
The technologies that provide a better living environment for people is the smart home as it makes things more efficient and provide many benefits to users such as comfort and convenience. However, the adoption rate of smart home technology is still low in Malaysia. This study conducted to explore the Klang Valley terrace house residents’ preferences on the type of smart home technology. Next, the factors and barriers of adopting smart home technology were investigated through the study. In this study, distribution of questionnaire was the main research method. As the result, the study has shown that the most preferences on the type of smart home technology by the Klang Valley terrace house residents are the smart security and safety control equipment. On the other hand, the result has shown that the convenience and comfort are the most important factor to the terrace house residents in Klang Valley in the adoption of smart home technology. Lastly, this study showed that the high cost are the most important barriers to the adoption of smart home equipment.
