Abstract

Industrialised Building System (IBS) is not a new construction technology or system introduced in the construction sector. In fact, IBS was initiated earlier in 1960 to overcome the shortage of housing. Besides, CIDB has been constantly encourage practitioners in construction sector to utilize IBS method rather than traditional construction method. This is because IBS approach is more possibly in realize environmental-friendly, improve efficiency and potential to reduce the dependency on foreign workers to construction industry. Yet, the adoption rate of IBS is still low especially in private sector even this system been introduced early before although IBS is theoretically advantageous in terms of time, cost, quality and safety. Thereupon, this dissertation is to raising awareness and increase understanding on the beneficial of implement IBS among construction parties. Moreover, this dissertation is to explore or investigate what difficulties or challenges encountered when choose to adopt IBS. Implication of these barriers that identified may symbolize or reflect to which impede IBS become extensive use. In this dissertation paper, solutions are provided so as to enhance the adoption rate of IBS in construction industry. Methodology carried out in this dissertation is quantitative method and analyzed by descriptive statistics with the aid of SPSS software. Data was gathered through distribute questionnaire survey to targeted respondents in Klang Valley area. Hence, findings on which barriers and solutions that most agreeable by the respondents shall be properly conduct and aggressively promote whereby to increase the adoption rate of IBS. Results may act as a reference to government and CIDB to look into the existing barriers of implementing IBS and appropriate strategy encourage to carry out. Overall, contribution of this study is mainly to increase awareness and acceptance toward IBS among construction parties whereby more parties may embrace to IBS in future project eventually.
