Abstract

A procurement system is a method or procedure for obtaining goods or services from an outside source for the benefit of the interested parties. Each type of procurement method has their own execution or organization on the particular contractual relationship, the structure of responsibilities, authorities for the parties who was involved in the project during the building process. The aim of the research is to provide an improvement on the selection strategy of the client or their perspective on the procurement method to select an appropriate procurement method used in Malaysia based on the affected factors. Three objectives of the research are to determine what type of procurement is used in Malaysia construction project, what was the factor will be affecting the procurement method selection of the construction project and how to solve the problem on inappropriate procurement method selected for the construction project. During the procurement method selection many factors or the selection criteria were affecting and resulting in the use of alternative procurement approaches Each of the factor or selection criteria effectivity manipulate the procurement method selection decision. Besides, the method application which is using to analyse or evaluate the procurement method also essential in the selection process. Hence, this research will be conducting a questionnaire section to determine the type of procurement method used, the influence factor, and the method to improve the probability selected an appropriate procurement method for the construction project. Throughout this study, the reader will have a well understanding on the factors which needed take into consideration when choosing a procurement method for the construction project. Furthermore, to provide the reader with a fundamental understanding of the purpose of each type of procurement method for the specific project.
