Abstract

The advancement in the development of the construction industry has relied heavily on the quality of workmanship in the construction projects, hence, quality is considered as one of the most crucial factors for the construction projects to be completed successfully. (Manap N,2016) The growing demand for the building has catered for a standard quality assessment to be developed, which to synchronize the quality standard delivered by Developers and Contractors in Malaysia. Therefore, CIDB developed QLASSIC and associated with Construction Industry Standard (CIS 7:2006) in 2006 which aimed to evaluate and regulate the quality of construction work among the Developers and Contractors in Malaysia. (Manap N,2016) However, although QLASSIC has been implemented for more than 10 years, there are still lots of companies that tend to neglect to adopt QLASSIC in their construction projects. The low adoption rate of QLASSIC in the Malaysian construction industry is mainly due to the low awareness level of Developers and Contractors as they perceive that QLASSIC will cause delays and might increase the overall cost of projects in obtaining a better quality. Thus, this research is aimed to encourage the Developers and Contractors to implement QLASSIC as a mandatory measurement tool in the construction industry by figuring out the challenges faced in implementing QLASSIC. The methodology adopted in this research would be the literature review and quantitative approach with a descriptive statistical method. 168 sets of questionnaires will be selected and delivered to the target sample by using non-probability sampling. The raw data obtained throughout the questionnaires survey will be analyzed using SPSS software. Hopefully, this research can build on more value towards the academic research in the understanding of the benefits obtained from the implementation of QLASSIC, hence advancing the development of the construction industry in Malaysia.
