Abstract
This dissertation explains the adoption of Information Communication Technology (ICT) In quantity surveying practice. This research will present the roles and responsibilities of quantity surveyor, identifies the usage of different types of ICT to improve the roles of QS and also propose the importance of adoption for ICT includes its strength and weakness for enhancing production of QS’s roles. Nowadays, the quantity surveyor has become more significant in the Malaysian construction industry. The quantity surveyor main task involve the estimation of budget cost and expenses for construction, preparing tax schedules, preparing documents needed to get approval from the government, maintaining various incomes and outcomes of the property, proposing cost plan for the construction and so on. It is importance to realize the adoption of ICT tools to improve the roles and responsibilities of the quantity surveyor. The ICT tools that are able to assist the local quantity surveyor to handle working tasks include Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Project 2010, Masterbill, Buildsoft, CATO Suite, CAD Measure, Binalink, and so on. All of these ICT tools have their own functions to perform the quantity surveyor working tasks. Besides that, it also contributes major strength to the quantity surveyor with the adoption of ICT tools. In this research, there is several methodologies used to collect the data and all the necessary relevant information. The literature review is taken from articles, books and websites to determine what are the roles and responsibilities of quantity surveyor, the usage of different types of ICT and the importance of ICT tools which include their strengths and weakness and future market penetration. After that, the questionnaires are also provided to respondents to identify the importance of the application of ICT tools. The results of the XII survey from the questionnaire can identify the relationship between quantity surveyor practices and ICT tools. Lastly, this dissertation in mainly tell the readers about what the roles and responsibilities of quantity surveyor, and the importance of adoption of ICT tools in performing their working tasks in the local construction industry.
