Abstract

This dissertation is to promote awareness and reduce accident rate in construction site. This research will present the roles and responsibilities of Safety Officer, the major kind of injury in construction site and the solution to prevent it and the method of solution in reducing accident at construction site in relation to safety and health management. Nowadays, the highest occupational accidents in Malaysia is construction site. It has been proved that the main resons for accident in construction site are resulted from poor infrastructure; problems of communication due to low literacy level; non availability of equipment; adherence to traditional methods of working; extreme weather conditions; unregulated practices on construction sites; improper use of equipment. In spite of this, the culture of the construction industry in developing countries also does not promote safety and health. It is importance to improve the roles and responsibilities of the Safety Officer. A Safety Officer ensures that construction workers are following established policies and safety regulations and may take on additional roles and responsibilities, but their primary job is helping to create safer construction sites. In this research, there is several methodologies used to collect the data and all the necessary relevant information. The literature review is taken from articles, books and websites to determine what are the roles and responsibilities of Safety Officer, the major kind of injury in construction site and the solution to prevent it and the method of solution in reducing accident at construction site in relation to safety and health management. After that, the questionnaires are also provided to respondents to identify the importance of the safety and health management in construction site.
