Abstract

The usage of Tik Tok is rising in individuals globally among people from all walks of life. This article critically reviews the literature related Tik Tok usage and the psychological impacts that lead to the users. Some of the features and functions of this application that make young adults so attractive into it have been discussed. Specifically, it examines how the usage of Tik Tok brings negative impacts in psychological aspects towards 20-29 years old young adults in Malaysia. The sample of the study contains 384 respondents and results show a significant relationship between usage of Tik Tok and negative impacts on psychological aspects. Mixed findings are reported regarding the negative psychological aspects such as: emotional valence, depression and anxiety. As a result, this study argues that the level of usage on Tik Tok is the main concern to determine the level of negative psychological impacts towards individuals. This article contributes to ongoing discourse in the area of education in future young adults and developmental psychology, and has implications for researchers and practitioners which U&G theory and SIT theory applied.
