Abstract

This research discusses the impact of variation order in construction industry. The focus is on the affect of variation orders, the effect of variation orders and the solution to overcome it in construction industry. The research covers a review of literature discussing the subject of variation orders. The review which includes many articles, research studies, as well as books written on the subject of variation orders and internet about the building construction industry. Those reviews are summarized about the various type of building, process of development, affect of variation order and effect of variation orders. It also show that what is the problem during the development process. Next, the field survey for 34 respondents which has client or developer, contractor and consultant involved in construction and consultancy of building projects. The data gathered was streamlined and analysed using a computer statistical package (STATSTICA). The results of the survey is presented in 4 sections; respondents’ profile, the affect of variation order, the effect of variation order and recommendations. In this research, the expectation is to gain the knowledge and experience on how the variation order occur and affect the construction project. It also get the information how to reduce or avoid the usage of variation order in construction industry.
