Abstract

This research presents a proposed hybrid piezoelectric-solar based energy harvesting system. The purpose to propose this system is to increase the speed to replace the conventional power generation plants which use the fossil-fuels as the generation fuels. This is because global warming is becoming more serious than expected. Thus, the policy for carbon reduction must be implemented. The hybrid energy harvesting system which harvests the renewable energy might be the right choice as a new power generation plant. However, the critical problem of the proposed hybrid system is the dependency of the solar panel on the weather condition. Thus, a piezoelectric energy harvesting system is added into the system to ensure the continuity of power supply. The hybrid system is expected to achieve higher output power than a single solar panel. The microcontroller based hybrid system has the advantages of easy control, easy operation and easy monitoring. The hybrid system can generate an average output power of 2859.8 mW, average output voltage of 15.25 V and average current of 236.23 mA. The piezoelectric system generates very little amount of the power which cannot contribute to total output power of hybrid system. The performance of hybrid system is still depending on the solar system.
