Abstract

In this modern age, an immense amount of information are in the constant state of transmission where most communication systems are equipped with fiber optics technology. Understanding the travelling nature of a propagating optical signal can certainly contribute to the development of fiber optics. Hence, the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation is used to simulate the pulse propagation inside a given fiber. The NLS equation required a numerical solution where in this report, Split-Step Fourier Method (SSFM) is used. The simulation can also reveal some of the effects of long travelling distance or high optical pulse exhibits on the shape of the pulse. Therefore, an analysis can be made towards nonlinear optics for further improvement of said optics.
