Abstract
As the trends and developments in the field of renewable energy resources and electric vehicles, a microgrid system is a solution to cooperate the supplies and demands sides. However, the microgrid system would encounter numerous challenges, including PV system intermittency and high electricity demand by EV charging stations. Therefore, a fuzzy logic control based energy management system (EMS) is proposed in this project to navigate the complexities of the power distribution system. The main goals of this project are to minimize the grid power profile fluctuations, mitigate the impact from the EV charging station and maintain the state of charge of the energy storage system’s battery. The simulation model is implemented and investigated were consists of an EMS, an EV charging station, a PV system, an energy storage system (ESS), the main grid supply and a residential load using Simulink, Matlab with a fuzzy toolbox. The method implemented in the EMS is to collect the measurements of irradiance from the PV system, the number of EVs from the EV charging station and the battery’s state of charge from the ESS. As a result, the EMS can monitor, analyse and control the current reference values of the EV and the ESS in order to deal with the issues and meet the objectives.
