Abstract

This thesis presents the overall development of the project with the title ‘Synthesis of Higher Order Spatial Filter for High Frequency Applications’. The introduction chapter covers the research background and problem statement to provide an initial insight about spatial filter based on frequency selective surface structures. The objective, research scope and research significance had been included as well. The literature review section includes the basic filter theories and the recent development on synthesis techniques of frequency selective surfaces as well as their limitations. To mitigate the limitations faced in the synthesis techniques, a new synthesis technique is developed and validated. The method includes developing the equivalent circuit for the spatial filter and implementing the structure through mapping of element values to actual filter dimensions. The attempts in designing a spatial filter based on frequency selective surface structure are described and the final design is shown with relevant discussion about the results obtained. Several limitations that have been encountered throughout the process are also addressed into the future work of the project.
