Abstract
The news of incidents caused by electricity has been making our blood run cold. It can be caused several reasons. Besides that, the current traditional socket can also cause several inconvenience since for old electrical appliances as user can only control it by moving near to them or using remote control. Infrared used by remote controls usually have the range of 10 meters and requires line of sight. To improve safety and also convenience, a socket with the aim of providing enhanced remote control will be developed. Besides that, this project is also performed to monitor the power usage of an electrical appliance. The reading will be showed in the IoT platform for future reference. If the peak current exceeds a certain value, the socket will be off. It can also measure ambient temperature and humidity value; therefore if user detects abnormal values, incidents might be able to be stopped. Devices such as Raspberry Pi, current sensor, relay, temperature and humidity sensor, as well as analog to converter are used in this project. For hardware wise socket, plug and 3 core wire with SIRIM certificate and 13A 250V ratings are required also. State machine is used in software implementation since Raspberry Pi uses General Purpose Operating System, Real Time Operating System cannot be used. Blynk IoT platform will be used so that Raspberry Pi can communicate with gadgets or computers through Wi-Fi. Unit test approach is used to test the state machine to ensure it is bug free. Various test scenarios will be tested on the device after it is implemented. After implemented this project, certain improvements can be made to enhance the responsiveness, power consumption and so on by changing to suitable hardware
