Abstract
Lodging service system (LSS) is an android application for the tenants to source their lodging to rent and landlords to lease out their property. Currently, the existing system is developed with lots of features and functionalities inherited from several batches of senior developers. However, some functionalities in the existing system are not maintained, integrated properly and are obsolete. Due to database changes, code refactoring is necessary to fix the issue. The purpose of the current project is to fix the errors in the system as well as improve the user experience in using the system. Research is done to analyze some similar applications in the market regarding their features which promote a better user experience. Then, the project scope is constructed based on the outcome of research. The scope of the project includes adding in UX controls such as appropriate dialogs, pop-ups, help features, page transitions, notifications and providing an intuitive dashboard for tenants to monitor their lease activities. The main scope will be bug fixing, maintenance related activities and code refactoring. Besides that, research on MQTT protocols is also done to understand deeper the backend implementation of the existing lodging service system, as well as learn the updates towards the protocol. Tools involved in this project include Android Studio, NetBeans IDE and XAMPP control panel. Agile Scrum methodology is adopted for the current project. In this case, UI and UX adaptations can be brought in anytime and continuous optimization. After the development phase, the lodging service system will undergo some usability tests. As a result, the system is expected to incorporate well and provide a better user experience. The limitation of this project is that it depends on the public-hosted Eclipse Mosquitto MQTT broker, the connectivity may be unstable during peak hours.
