Abstract
Conventional liquid electrolytes which are toxic, corrosive and prone to leaking have brought major disadvantages to the users as well as the environment. Hence, development of solid-state electrolytes have been focus by researchers to solve this problem. In this study, PVA and sodium alginate is used to develop the solid polymer electrolytes by using solution casting method. The different proportions of sodium alginate affect the thermal, structural and electrical properties was studied. With the addition of sodium alginate into PVA, thermal, structural, and electrical properties of polymer electrolytes have been improved. The highest concentration of sodium alginate (50 wt. %) has the highest ionic conductivity as well. Then the highest conductive (PS5) and medium conductive (PS3) polymer electrolytes were used to fabricate EDLC cells to examine and compare the specific discharge capacitance, coulombic efficiency, energy density, and power density. PS5 EDLC has better performances as compared to PS3
