Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of 6 weeks core training on agility and speed among recreational badminton athletes. A total of 20 recreational badminton athletes were recruited. Training programme was adapted from a previous study done by Nurten& Esin. There were a total of 20 subjects who aged from 18 to 30 years old. Subjects were divided into EG who and CG w where EG underwent 6 weeks of core training, twice a week with each of the sessions taking around 45 minutes including a warm up and cool down session while CG resumed their daily resume. Pre-test was conducted before the intervention program, where subjects' speed and agility performances were tested using the 10m sprint test and Agility T-test. Post-test was conducted after 6 weeks on both groups. Results showed that there was no significant difference (p >.05) between pre test and post test in agility T-test within EG and CG. Besides that, there were no significant differences (p >.05) between pre test and post test in agility T-test within control groups. However, there was significant improvement (p <.05) in the post test as compared to pre test in the 10 m sprint test within the experimental group. The main outcome of this study indicated that 6 weeks of core training have significant positive impact in the speed performance of recreational badminton athletes
