Abstract

The development of housing projects which featured with green concept is considered as the future trend in every country where Malaysia, a developing country is also not an exception. In recent times, government are started to pay attention on this issue in order to build for a green and resilient city in coping with the environmental impacts which are becoming worse. However, the insight should be focused on the homebuyers’ acceptability and willingness to purchase green housing. In examining the underlying relationship, previous research provided an opportunity to grasp on the green housing features and its associated benefits as well as the influencing factors in affecting the homebuyers. In this research study, Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software together with the analysis methods such as Relative Important Index (RII) and descriptive analysis have been adopted in assessing the data collected from the questionnaire. In this context, the result driven from analysis revealed that quality, locational, view and ventilation are among the essential factors to influence the purchase decisions of homebuyers in normal condition. Besides, in terms of green housing, homebuyers are favourable to have included with the feature of community design and planning. In addition, the benefits from the aspects of environmental, economic and social can be enjoyed by green homebuyers. Moreover, environmental concerns and government involvement are positively impacted to the willingness of green homebuyers while demographic and social referents factors are derived in opposite way. In short, this research study provides in-depth understanding and making new insights on the acceptability and willingness of homebuyers in purchasing green housing; promoting this subject matter into the eyes of public through the significant parties in raising their awareness towards a better future.
