Abstract

The population in the urban areas has been significantly increased during these years, it was observable that the rate of urbanization in the country has been rapidly growth. There were more and more buildings being develop, construct, and built by the developers, however, dozens and dozens of the green spaces has been covered by concrete to provide more infrastructure in a city. Therefore, this study aims to increase the application of urban green space by developers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This aim can be achieved by fulfilling two objectives namely (i) To highlight the challenges of developers applying urban green space in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and (ii) To find out the solution to encourage more urban green space in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Based on purposive sample which falls under non-probability sampling method, 150 sets of questionnaires were distributed to the respondents, which are the developers and contractors in Malaysia. This study was using the Statistical Packages for the Social Science (SPSS) 24.0 software to conduct frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, normality test, Cronbach’s Alpha, Spearman’s correlation coefficient and item-total statistics, it was found that the main issue faced by the developer to apply more urban green spaces is the lack of financial support, this is caused by the limited budget allocated to the urban green space in a project by the client. Besides, most of the clients do not understand or recognise the long-term benefits of the urban green space, thus causing the refusal to construct green space in their project. This research is expected to become a reference for the developers and contractors to understand the importance of the urban green spaces and apply it in the urban areas especially in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
