Abstract

In this era of advanced technology, the construction industry was repeatedly criticized for being cost overrun and poor cost management. Currently, there were several studies addressing the project estimating software for construction purposes in Malaysia. Reviewing of past research, there were many types of estimating software used by construction companies in Malaysia. Therefore, the main aim of this research was to identify the more common estimating software used in the Malaysia construction industry. Besides, this study also aims to explore the barriers to implementing Estimating software. Moreover, the last aim of this research was to establish strategic ways to promote wide usage of Estimating Software. Based on the literature review stated, a questionnaire survey is constructed and quantitative research is adopted for this paper due to less time consuming and little cost. The questionnaire was prepared and distributed to consultant quantity surveyor firms in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. The data collected was then analyzed using SPSS Statistics in order to achieve the objectives. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the result of the questionnaire survey. The results obtained provide a big picture of the current practices of estimating software used in Malaysia and also the barriers and strategies to promote wide usage of Estimating Software. Thus, this research acts as a useful reference not only to construction players but also to technology developers.
