Abstract

The invention of new technologies has stimulated the evolution of a simple building to a more intelligence and multifunctional smart building. In recent years, Internet of Things (IoT) has been integrated into smart buildings especially for residential buildings. Despite the fact that these technologies have been around for more than three decades, Smart Homes are still not commonly used in all countries. There is a lack of studies that specifically investigate how Smart Home benefits the users and factors that influence people to adopt and use Smart Home. Thus, this study aims to explore Smart Home deeply. Specifically, the objectives of this research are (1) to define Smart Home and its concept, (2) to analyze features and benefits of Smart Home and (3) To determine the factors influencing the adoption and challenges of Smart Home. Quantitative research method research is used in this study with a sample size of 152 and the sample is selected by using purposive sampling under non-probability sampling. The respondents need to be a resident of Gravit8 located in Klang. Online survey questionnaire is the instrument to measure the variables and being distributed to the sample. The survey questionnaire was self-administered, which means that respondents were provided with several statement questions and answered the survey themselves through the online survey tool, Google Form and analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results provide a little of the respondents' demographics and most respondents are female. Findings also shown that all variables of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM Model) positively influenced the behavioural intention to use Smart Home and all the hypotheses are supported. Automation helps make a smart home more convenient. In the near future, Smart Home will become an essential as we move along with the globalization era. Also, this research provides the limitations together with recommendations for future researchers
