Abstract

Effective safety management is considered one of the severe issues in the construction industry worldwide. Over the past 20 years, the rates of incidents and injuries have declined significantly. Nevertheless, the construction industry is deemed to be one of the most dangerous industrial sectors. Several factors resulted in accidents: human factors, poor safety culture, poor communication, and lack of safety awareness and knowledge. Some factors are unavoidable, but as it is often said, prevention is better than cure. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to identify the essential elements to implement effective safety management as well as the strategies to implement effective safety management in Malaysia.
