Abstract

Nowadays, the construction industry has detrimental environmental and climate effects. It is because the construction of buildings consumes enormous amounts of natural resources and energy. As a result, the government has adopted green building as a strategy for decreasing the construction industry’s negative environmental and climate impacts. The goal of this research is to encourage the application of green building technologies in construction projects by the construction sector. Besides, this research gives insight into the barrier factors and success factors in encouraging the implementation of green building technology in the construction sector. Moreover, the study also illustrates the benefits of encouraging the implementation of green building technology in the construction sector. The data for this study were gathered by questionnaires and the data was analysed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS software. As a result, the findings of this research show the benefits of promoting the adoption of green building technologies in Malaysia construction industry are identified as financial benefits, social benefits and environmental benefits. Besides, the barrier factors that influence implementation of green building technology in Malaysia’s construction sector are identified which include financial factors, municipal factors, technical factors and social factors. Last but not least, the success factors to encourage the implementation of green building technology in the construction sector are identified as growing awareness, government incentives and education and training
