Abstract

The whole world is now in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution (IR4.0). This phenomenon also reverberated in the Malaysian construction industry. The rapid technological innovation is much quicker and earlier than the speed of the market to absorb and adopt. Some research shows that the construction firms are lagging in adapting to the technological advances in Industry 4.0 compared to other industries(Osunsanmi et al. 2018). The industry was greatly transformed by the emerging technologies such as AutoCAD, BIM, cloud, big data analytics and etcetera. In addition, there are moving towards higher digitalization with those innovatives and plants such as prefabrication, 3DP, VR, automation and robotics which are helping the industry for better understanding about the almost real time process(Raihan Maskuriy et al. 2019). The industry has started to recognize how vital these transformations and utilization of technologies are to enhance productivity and efficiency and help the growth of the industry towards IR4.0. However, there are several challenges faced by the construction industry. This study aims to review the type of the emerging technologies arising from IR4.0 and their advantages and challenges when adapting to these technologies. To achieve the objective of this finding, literature review was done and a portal questionnaire survey was chosen to collect the primary data from the construction professions in Klang Valley. A total of 60 questionnaires were sent to the construction professionals in Klang Valley. After data was collected, the data were analyzed via SPSS by using descriptive analysis and frequency analysis. The results will be shown in chart and table form. Advantages and challenges have been ranked after data obtained from the various construction professionals have been analyzed and a conclusion is made
