Abstract

Kinesiophobia is defined as “fear of reinjury or fear of physical movement” and also negatively affect their mental state on the court after painful injury, so that most of them are tend to avoid to join the physical activity. While psychological readiness is defined as "the degree of confident to return to the field". Confidence is multidimensional in that it consists of three themes such as belief in the complete healing of a previously injured body part and efficacy in performance level of their previous injured body part. Therefore, if athletes who are not ready in return to sport may because of the lack of confidence in their ability of the previous injured part to perform well. The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between kinesiophobia and psychological readiness to return to sport following sport injuries among TARUC recreational athletes. A total of 259 subjects (age = 20.41 ± 1.51years old) participated in this study. The subjects were required to fill up three questionnaires which included demographic data, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-17) and Injury Psychological Readiness to Return to Sport Scale (I-PRRS). The results showed that there is a low negative relationship was found between kinesiophobia and psychological readiness to return to sport following sport injuries among TARUC recreational athletes (p = < .001). Subject with higher kinesiophobia which will associated with a lower psychological readiness to return to sports because they may wonder their physical fitness to meet the requirement of the performance level. In conclusion, the severity of kinesiophobia may negatively affect the psychological readiness to return to sport following sport injuries among TARUC recreational athletes
