Abstract

Quality has become one of the most significant issues and widely discussed matters in construction industry, as quality is one of the key factors which will affect the customer satisfaction. Insufficient quality management system leads inefficiency and ineffective company performance. Hence, this paper is discussed regarding ISO 9000 quality management system implementation (QMS). The objective of this study is to empirical validating the benefit of ISO 9000 QMS implementation in construction companies and to compare the performance between the companies with or without ISO 9000 QMS practices. Quantitative method was use in this study, where the data was collected from different grade contractor companies in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor area. There were total 400 set of questionnaire survey have been distributed and 40 sets of questionnaire survey returned. The data were analysed with descriptive analyses and independent sample t-test. The results revealed that the top 3 rank benefits agreed by most of the contractor firm are enhance company image(1a), improve cooperation among different parties(1b) and improve documentation control(1c), increase success in securing tender or contract(2), clear job description(3). Moreover, the independent sample t-test result shown that there is no significant different between companies with or without ISO 9000 QMS in term of performance. The study help in providing a deep understand of the ISO 9000 QMS and create more awareness in construction industry.
