Abstract
This cross-sectional study examines the relationship of daily spiritual experiences, religious commitment, and religion coping with life satisfaction. A total of 191 Malaysian university students from the religion background of Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, and Christianity were recruited through snowball sampling method. The participants were asked to answer a survey consisting Daily Spiritual Experience Scale, the Religious Commitment Inventory-10, Brief RCOPE, and Satisfaction with Life Scale. A bivariate Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple linear regression analysis were conducted. Results showed that there were significant correlations between the variables. However, only positive religious coping, b = .419, t(185) = 3.725, p <.001, and negative religious coping, b = -.332, t(185) = -4.963, p <.001 significantly predicted life satisfaction, whereas daily spiritual experience, b = -.033, t (185) = -.348, p > .001 and religious commitment , b = -.007, t(185) = -.071, p >.001 did not predict life satisfaction. These findings from participants with varied religious backgrounds complement past studies in the field and inform practical efforts to promote interventions relevant to religiosity and spirituality among the younger generation.
