Abstract

The project “Long Distance Communication Using Power Line” focuses on the research of the Power Line Communication (PLC) which uses a preinstalled wiring system to communicate in long distance, transferring data, information and control. There are few advantages that enable PLC to enhance internet communication services. The distinct advantage would be a big reduction in the setting up cost on laying of cables and reduction of waiting time for the communication system to be completed. Smart Grid technology, which is one of the future big revolutions in the field of communication and data transferring, requires human intelligence to be superimposed on traditional power grid that transmits electrical energy. Thus, research on PLC technology is worthwhile and would lead to new openings and technological advancement. Another potential of power line communication is that it can be used to remotely control lights, electric fans, air conditioners, electronic information boards, etc. in places such as school, hospital and hostel. The consequence is great saving of human labor. The power line communication technology adopted for this project uses phase-locked loop (PLL) technique which makes use of the XOR logic gate to achieve locking (tracking) of weak signals overwhelmed by noise.
