Abstract

Previous studies showed that there is a positive relationship between resilience and life satisfaction. However, limited research has been done on the relationship in Malaysia. More undergraduate’s students are experiencing psychological distress and highlight the needs of optimising their adaptive mechanisms. This study sought to examine the gender difference in resilience and the relationship between resilience and life satisfaction. A total of 150 undergraduates in Malaysia recruited through the use of convenience sampling technique. They have completed a set of online questionnaires which consist of two psychological inventories, namely Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). BRS and SWLS were used to measure resilience and life satisfaction respectively. Independent-samples t-test and Bivariate Pearson Correlation were conducted to analyse the data. The findings indicate that there is a similar resilience level between males and females. On the other hand, there is no statistically significant relationship between resilience and life satisfaction. This study has provided some new insights on the relationship of resilience and life satisfaction in Malaysia. Additionally, it suggests a new direction for future research in order to enhance resilience and life satisfaction among undergraduates in Malaysia. The possible explanations were provided and future researchers may further explore it. Keywords: resilience, life satisfaction, undergraduates
