Abstract

This survey study is conducted to investigate the chronotype and the psychological health of university students in Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), KL. Most importantly, it is to study the association between chronotype and psychological health among university students in TAR UMT, KL. This survey has involved both male and female, as well as all ethnic groups in TAR UMT including Malay, Chinese, Indian and Others. The survey consists of Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ) to assess the university students’ chronotype, and 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) to assess university students’ psychological health. The results show that the majority of the university students in TAR UMT are intermediate chronotype because of the irregular and demanding schedule of university life, flexibility to schedule their classes and activities, as well as the social environment of university life. It also found that Indian has significantly higher GHQ score than Chinese and Others. Besides, Chinese has significantly higher GHQ score than Others. Most importantly, this study shows no significant difference in association between chronotype and psychological health among university students from TAR UMT.
