Abstract

The study aimed to compare the effects of using internal focus and external focus during the resistance training for Pectoralis Major and Quadriceps Muscles in terms of muscle strength and muscle hypertrophy. Sixteen basketball players, aged 21.87 ± 1.46 years, were divided into internal focus group (n= 8) and external focus group (n= 8). Both groups underwent a series of tests such as girth measurement on chest muscle and thigh muscle by using anthropometric tape which was known as MUSCLE HYPERTROPHY parameter and the strength of chest muscle and quadriceps muscle on bench press and partial back squat by using 1 RM testing which was known as MUSCLE STRENGTH parameter during pre and post test. Internal focus group was given an instruction which was ‘Squeezing the muscle!’ while pushing the bar whereas the external focus group was given an instruction which was ‘NORMAL PUSH the bar up’. They were trained for 8 weeks, 3 times per week non-consecutive day with the EMGs device to guide them for not crossing their respective baseline reading. Results showed that there were no significant differences between internal focus group and external focus group in terms of the muscle strength and muscle hypertrophy.
