Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship among body dissatisfaction and eating disorders and whether the moderator variables influence the relationship among body dissatisfaction and eating disorders in dropout university athletes. A total number of 96 dropout student athletes from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology had participated in this study by completing two questionnaires which are Contour Drawing Rating Scales and Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26). The demographic data that was used were consists of items such as age, gender, height, weight, name of university, years of study, types of sports, sports level, years of drop out and sports training experience before drop out. There was a positive weak correlation between Dieting, Bulimia and Food Preoccupation, and Eating Disorders with body dissatisfaction. Meanwhile, there was a significant effect between gender mean score and body dissatisfaction mean score in dropout athletes, body mass index mean score and oral control subscales mean score in dropout athletes, body mass index mean score and body dissatisfaction mean score in dropout athletes and years of dropout mean score and Bulimia and Food Preoccupation subscales mean score in dropout athletes. The results also showed that there was no significant effect between gender mean score and eating disorders mean score in dropout athletes, between body mass index mean score with dieting, bulimia and food preoccupation subscales and EAT-26 mean score in dropout athletes, between years of dropout mean score and dieting, oral control subscales and EAT-26 mean score in dropout athletes and also between years of dropout mean score and body dissatisfaction mean score in dropout athletes.
