Abstract
Power and agility are essential components in badminton during a match/ competition. This study was to compare the effect of 6 weeks plyometric training on hard and soft surfaces on agility and power among recreational college badminton players. A total of 24 male and female collegiate badminton players were recruited (age= 21.13±1.39, height= 167.92±6.52, weight= 60.01±7.67, Years of Badminton Experience= 7±2.73, Frequency of Badminton per week= 2.29±0.46, Duration of Badminton per session= 2±0). The subjects were randomly assigned into soft surface (n=12) and hard surface (n=12) of plyometric group by using systematic -counterbalancing method. They undergone 6 weeks of plyometric training programmed in different type of surfaces. The training was conducted 3 days per week. The subjects were tested on vertical jump and agility. Results showed significant improved in the agility and power (p = 0.000) in both surfaces after 6 weeks of plyometric training. Soft surface showed greater improvement in term of agility (8%) but was not significant (p > 0.05). There also no significant difference (p > 0.05) between both hard and soft surfaces among the pretest and posttest. Therefore, it can be concluded that plyometric training is beneficial in improving agility and power. However, both of the surfaces delivered same effect in term of agility and power.
