Abstract
Building information modelling (BIM) has gained attention among the industry players and the government agencies, and institutions of higher learning are no exception. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is proposed to manage construction projects effectively and efficiently. As part of the efforts to produce graduates with BIM enabled, BIM has been embedded in many of the courses delivered by the institution of higher education, at different educational levels, from certificates to PhD. However, due to a lack of awareness among professionals and architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) undergraduates, the adoption of BIM in the Malaysian construction industry is still low. Thus, this research aims to evaluate students/graduates who completed their industry training's learning experience of building information modelling (BIM) and students/graduates who completed their industry training's working experience at building information modelling (BIM). Questionnaires were distributed to the target respondents which is students/graduates who have completed their industry training via Google Form and 32 responses were received. The data collected was analysed by using Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS) software based on Descriptive method. The result revealed the overall learning experience for student/graduates who completed their industry training is having a positive result which the respondents think that the Higher Education Institution have in progress although the goals are not yet achieved and the working experiences for student/graduates who completed their industry training is quite unsatisfaction because most of the respondents are only completed the few weeks industry training not real work so it may be different from that. Further discussions were made to evaluate overall learning experience for students/graduates who completed the industry training and the working experiences for students/graduates who completed the industry training such as concept of BIM, level of BIM in Malaysia, importance of BIM, BIM’s teaching method at higher education, etc. At the end of this research, it found out that if we implement BIM, a new manner of collaborative working and information exchange can be expected towards BIM. The limitations of this research were low response rate, not covering larger areas in University's Malaysia and time constraints. Thus, future study may consider an increase of sample sizes and integrate more data collection methods.
