Abstract

TARUC students who live nearby campus and don't own a vehicle found that it is difficult to take a transport to commute to campus or hostel. There are various reasons for this such as limited bus services, long queue time, inflexible and unsynchronized bus schedule and traffic jams. Hence, we proposed a mobile application, TARUC Carpool Application which aims to help students access transport easily by using carpooling. This solution can solve the many of the issues that mentioned above as some of the TARUC students who have transportation can share their car seats with those who do not have private vehicles to go back and forth to campus. To develop TARUC Carpool Application, there are 6 modules to be implemented, including Car Booking, Route, Bill, Account Management, Communication and Reward modules. During the development process, an Incremental Prototyping model will be used to ensure all modules are working correctly before integration and also create a prototype for the client to test and give feedback. For the testing process, unit testing will be conducted to make sure each of the functionalities perform correct actions while dealing with positive and negative scenarios. The biggest strength of our project is that it doesn’t only solve the existing problem (limited bus service), but also requires a smaller implementation fee to build the whole application as the TARUC management team is not required to hire more drivers or purchase more buses to serve the large number of students. On the other hand, the weakness of our proposed solution is that it doesn’t have a strong security solution to protect the application as well as the user's sensitive information.
