Abstract

The proposed project is an affordable electronic-based secret door lock system and provides access to those who know the correct knocking pattern. Using conventional door locks such as key, access card, padlock, keypad still can lead to unauthorized door opening as people with malice intentions can easily gain access to break into one’s properties. Thus, this secret door lock system allows users to have more than one knocking pattern so that the outsiders will face a high level of difficulty when trying to barge into one's properties. The software that was used to write the code for the secret door lock system was Arduino IDE. The hardware used to establish this system were Arduino Nano, LM393 sound sensor, two LEDs (red and green), breadboard, solenoid lock, 9 V battery, 220 Ω resistors, single channel 5 V relay module, 3.7 V Li-ion batteries and jumper wires. When the knocking pattern performed is valid, the secret door lock using knocking pattern system would emit green LED and the solenoid lock would be in “opened / unlocked” mode. When the knocking pattern is invalid, the system would emit red LED and the solenoid lock would remain in “locked” mode.
