Abstract

This research study sought a better understanding of the construct of security being the major challenge in the adopting of cloud-based accounting systems. The study aims to examine the relationship between security and data management, encryption, authentication and authorisation in relationship to the adoption of cloud-based accounting systems from the point of view of accountants. A total of 100 samples were gathered for this research using online questionnaire surveys, and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse the data (SPSS). The result of this research confirms that security has a negative relationship with the adoption of cloud-based accounting systems hence it is a major problem in the adoption of cloud-based accounting systems. Although security is a major challenge firms and individuals are still adopting cloud-based accounting systems as the benefit of the software outweighs the challenge of security in the adoption decision. The outcome of this research provides valuable insight into the relationship between security and the different activities that make security what it is with clear and detailed information when making an adoption decision of cloud-based accounting software, and also beneficial to researchers as the findings of this research could be a foundation for future studies to seek other relevant information and knowledge on the adoption of cloud-based accounting systems.
