Abstract

This study aims to investigate the factors that influence corruption risk in Malaysia workplace and how top management support can mediate this risk. The study begins with a discussion of the background of corruption risk. It then assesses the relationship between corporate ethical values, corporate culture, stakeholder engagement, and leadership behaviour, and their effect on corruption risk. To achieve the objectives of this research, a cross-sectional quantitative approach was used, and 250 employees currently working in Malaysia were surveyed. The data collected was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29 and Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), specifically SmartPLS version 4. The study's conceptual framework was developed based on three theories: Theory Planned Behaviour (TPB), Stakeholder theory, and Bandwagon Effect Theory. These theories emphasise factors such as corporate ethical values, corporate culture, stakeholder engagement, and leadership behaviour that can induce corruption risk. However, little research has been conducted on top management support as a mediating variable. Aziz (2020) has recommended that top management support is necessary for effective corruption risk management and promoting a healthy and clean work culture. The research findings suggest that the independent variables, including corporate ethical values, corporate culture, stakeholder engagement, and leadership behaviour, are interconnected and partially mediated by top management support in managing corruption risk.
