Abstract

Sustainable waste management is becoming an increasingly concerning issue in Malaysia. With an alarming amount of waste generated daily since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgency in practicing recycling within Malaysian culture. However, the lack of recycling knowledge and ignorance among Malaysians has caused slow developments in the nation’s recycling rate. The aim of this project is to ease the process of carrying out recycling among Malaysians. The project will use image recognition to help users identify the waste in images to compensate for the lack of recycling knowledge so they know whether the waste in hand is recyclable. The project will also have a chatbot to give users more knowledge on the recycling, such as marking the nearest recyclable waste disposal point as to compensate for the ignorance of just lumping recyclables and non-recyclables together.
