Abstract

The number of vehicles on the road keeps on increasing and the traffic has become worse than ever in recent years. Drivers are facing problem when trying to find for parking spaces due to the increasing number of vehicles. The same issue can be observed in the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) campus as well. In order to increase the efficiency of finding a car park, a smart car park management system is needed. A smart car park system should be able to tell the user the location and amount of vacant car park spaces available if there is any so that driver can save tons of time finding them. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to develop a smart car park system that will accomplish that function. A camera will be installed at the car park area to capture the footage and process it with image processing artificial intelligence to determine the number of vacant car park spaces. A user mobile application will be developed for the user to observe the number of vacant car park spaces. Another admin mobile application will be developed for the authorized personnel to observe the footage at the car park area. The system will be developed using incremental model following the project timeline. Mobile application will be developed using Kotlin with Android Studio while the artificial intelligence model is trained with Python language. After the system has been successfully implemented, system testing is conducted to test whether the functionalities of the system has fulfilled the requirements. A series of test cases is created to test the system in an organized manner. As a conclusion, functions of the system is presented on a mobile application due to the nature of the system will be used while the image algorithm will be run on a separate computer before the output is presented in the mobile application. The system allows the users to view for available car park spaces in the TAR UMT campus and will notify the admin or guards on illegal parking cases, which is the core idea of the project to solve the current car park related issues in the campus. The system has successfully fulfilled all the objectives that are proposed in for this project.
