Abstract

Gender inequality is a pervasive issue in many industries worldwide, and the Malaysian construction sector is no exception. In spite of endeavours aimed at promoting gender equality in Malaysia, the construction industry continues to maintain its status as a maledominated field, offering limited opportunities for women to advance in their careers. This dissertation explores the multifaceted dimensions of gender inequality within the Malaysian construction industry. With a focus on understanding the underlying barriers, impacts, and potential solutions, this research aims to shed light on a critical yet understudied aspect of gender disparities in the workplace. In order to accomplish the research objectives of this study, a comprehensive literature review encompassing journals, articles, conference papers, and government statistics has been conducted. Quantitative approach was adopted and 407 sets of questionnaire survey forms were distributed to the target respondents. Data analysis were carried out afterwards to interpret and discuss the data collected. Ultimately, this dissertation seeks to inform policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the broader community about the pervasive issue of gender inequality in the Malaysian construction industry. By addressing the complex web of factors that contribute to these disparities, this research offers a foundation for creating a more equitable and inclusive environment for all individuals within the sector, thus fostering both social progress and economic growth in Malaysia.
