Abstract

This research investigates the readiness of educators and students in Malaysia's Built Environment disciplines for Distance Learning (DL), an educational model thrust into prominence by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study aims to identify DL modes in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), explore determinants influencing DL adoption among educators and students, and address research gaps by evaluating their readiness post-pandemic. The study utilised a quantitative approach, and this research employs questionnaire surveys and statistical analysis to provide insights into DL adoption, offering valuable guidance for HEIs in ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of high-quality education in the digital age. The findings reveal the utilisation of four distinct distance learning modes, with a preference for hybrid distance learning among both groups. A minority of educators and students still favour traditional face-to-face learning. Despite exposure to various distance learning modes, educators' and students' readiness for distance learning falls short, with overall mean of 3.82 and 3.52, respectively. This research provides critical insights for TAR UMT's FOBE considering distance education implementation. It underscores the need for future educational authorities to emphasise tailored strategies and skills to prepare educators and students for distance learning.
