Abstract

Ensuring safety is always the foremost priority, especially in high-risk construction industry. Unfortunately, the accident and fatality rates in the Malaysian construction industry have been consistently higher compared to other industries. This emphasises the importance of focusing on the performance of safety management in Malaysian construction industry. It is crucial to take safety management seriously to effectively minimise accidents and create a safe working environment for workers. Therefore, this study is conducted to aim to evaluate safety management practices in the Malaysian construction industry for enhanced safety and accident reduction. To achieve the research objectives, an extensive literature review was conducted on various sources such as books, journals, articles and government publications. Additionally, a mixed approach of open-ended questions and close-ended questions in questionnaire survey has been selected to distribute to 400 numbers of Grade 7 contractor firms in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to gather the primary data. The questionnaire allows respondents to answer it based on their perspectives and experiences. The data collected will be analysed and presented in the form of charts and tables. The findings will serve as a reference for relevant parties to improve safety management in the Malaysian construction industry. All in all, this research is conducted to raise awareness and explore advanced methods to mitigate safety problems in the industry and emphasising the significance of enhancing safety management performance.
