Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve the adoption of AI in the development of smart and sustainable towns. A smart and sustainable town is one that has created the technological infrastructure necessary to create, implement, and support sustainable operations as well as to help it meet the demands of expanding urbanisation. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play a crucial role in creating and managing smart towns. As a result, the goal of this research is to discover ways to improve the use of artificial intelligence in the development of smart and sustainable towns. Using quantitative data, the questionnaire survey was distributed to 100 number of main contractor companies. However, there are only few respondents from these company fill in the questionnaire. The quantitative data were analysed using frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, and the Cronbach's Alpha reliability test. Based on the main findings, it can be concluded that the majority of respondents are aware of smart and sustainable towns, and the majority of them agree on the features mentioned in the concepts of smart and sustainable towns. The researchers, Voda and Radu (2019) state that artificial intelligence can help optimize energy consumption by identifying patterns and trends in energy usage and providing recommendations for reducing energy waste. Numerous possibilities exist for AI to raise sustainability, lower energy costs, and increase energy efficiency. In addition, this is further supported by Berry (2021), which a network-based fuzzy inference system and a hybridised algorithm have been used to improve the prediction, management, and control of energy usage in buildings. With the help of artificial intelligence, smart towns can analyse and monitor how much energy is used by residents and businesses. Moreover, as mentioned by the researcher, Duggal (2021), AI system consist of technical challenges where AI can only complete tasks for which they were designed or programmed; if they are requested to complete anything else, they often fail or produce ineffective outputs, which can have serious consequences. It can also conclude that the strategies can be considered when constructing a smart and sustainable town in order to increase the success rate. This research study is expected to provide some insights or guidelines for developers, main contractors, architects, engineers, and others to gain a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence as well as smart and sustainable town development in order to increase the adoption of artificial intelligence in the development of smart and sustainable town.
