Abstract

Safety on construction sites is paramount to the well-being of workers and the successful completion of projects. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has implemented a comprehensive safety programme to enhance the safety standards of construction sites and protect the lives of site workers. This study explores the significance of the CIDB Safety Programme in Kuala Lumpur, examining its impact on site workers' safety practices and the overall construction industry. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and on-site observations, this research investigates the awareness and perception of site workers regarding the CIDB Safety Programme. It also assesses the programmes effectiveness in reducing accidents, injuries, and fatalities on construction sites. Preliminary findings reveal that the CIDB Safety Programme has played a pivotal role in elevating safety awareness among site workers and enhancing their safety behaviors. It has also contributed to a substantial reduction in construction-related accidents. However, challenges and opportunities for improvement in the programmes implementation and enforcement are identified. This study underscores the critical importance of the CIDB Safety Programme as a cornerstone for fostering a culture of safety within the construction industry in Kuala Lumpur. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, construction companies, and industry stakeholders to further enhance safety standards and protect the well-being of site workers, ultimately leading to safer construction practices and the successful completion of projects in the Malaysian capital.
