Abstract

Although the Malaysian construction industry has experienced substantial expansion in recent years, there are still several obstacles standing in the way of its development. The purpose of this research is to identify the major concerns and opportunities facing the sector and to consider potential solutions. The study uses a mixed-methods approach that includes a thorough examination of the literature and a survey of business experts. The findings show that Malaysia's construction industry is struggling with issues like a lack of competent labour, cost overruns, and safety hazards, among others. Better management techniques, the implementation of new technology, and enhanced stakeholder participation are examples of opportunities for growth. The results of this study can help policymakers, business professionals, and other stakeholders handle the issues and take advantage of the opportunities in the Malaysian construction sector. This study aims to provide a thorough overview of the current situation of the construction industry in Malaysia as well as its potential in the future. It also addresses the industry's difficulties and prospects. This study explores the complex problems that the Malaysian construction sector faces by using a mixed-methods approach that combines a detailed literature analysis with opinions from industry insiders. One of the major conclusions of this study is the identification of three major problems that the industry must deal with: cost overruns resulting from inaccurate project estimates, safety hazards brought on by poor design, and labour shortages made worse by immigration limitations. These difficulties put ongoing initiatives at risk in addition to impeding growth. This study also clarifies the significant impact these difficulties have had on Malaysia's construction industry. Poor project management is to blame for safety concerns, labour shortages result in lower productivity, and cost overruns raise the possibility of project abandonment. Developing sound solutions to these implications requires an understanding of their consequences. This investigation yields a number of workable solutions in keeping with the third purpose of the study. A key component of addressing safety issues is having effective reporting and communication channels. Flexibility in scheduling can help with labour shortages, and regular monitoring and reporting processes are crucial for controlling cost overruns. In a nutshell, this study is an important resource for decision-makers, business experts, and other parties with an interest in the Malaysian construction industry. The Malaysian construction sector may not only get over its current roadblocks but also set itself up for long-term, sustainable growth and development by recognizing the issues, comprehending their effects, and putting the suggested solutions into practise. In order to ensure the industry's long-term viability and prosperity, this study emphasizes the significance of proactive measures.
