Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness between maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) activation protocol and an eccentric overload (EOL) activation protocol on the countermovement jump (CMJ) performance and change of direction performance among collegiate female badminton player. In this study, an experimental repeated measure crossover design was used. The study involved 16 female badminton players (age: 21 ±1.90 years, height: 160.73 ±5.06cm, weight: 52.69 ±5.16kg, years of playing experience: 11.56 ±2.25 years, years of training: 9.87 ±2.34 playing duration per week: 337.50±109.27). Subjects were required to undergo the intervention either the EOL potentiation, MVIC potentiation or control for one session followed by the CMJ test and badminton specific change of direction test. The data analysis showed that there were significant better performance in agility tests ("Four-corners agility test": p < .001, "Side to Side agility Test": p = <.001), jump height (p <.001), and RFD (p = .007) after the MVIC protocol compared to the EOL protocol, there were no statistically significant differences in Peak Force between the two protocols (p > .05) This suggested that MVIC exhibited significant greater improvements than EOL in agility and jump height, underscoring its potential is a valuable warm-up strategy for female collegiate badminton players.
