Abstract
This qualitative research study investigates the benefits and challenges of outdoor play for preschoolers in Kuala Lumpur. We aim to learn more about the insights and experiences of early childhood education (ECE) professionals with a range of levels of training and real-life experience through semi-structured interviews. Three respondents with early childhood education degrees and at least three years of experience in the field are included in the study. Additionally, two respondents with ECE diplomas are also in the research cohort. Through thematic analysis, important themes about the perceived benefits and challenges of outdoor play in preschool settings are investigated. Preliminary research indicates that while outdoor play has obstacles relating to safety, supervision, and resource limits, it also improves children's physical, social, and cognitive development. The study adds to our understanding of the value of outdoor play in early childhood education and emphasises the necessity of supportive practices and policies to encourage preschoolers to play outside in urban settings. It is advised that more study be done to examine the long-term impacts of outdoor play on kids' development and to provide solutions for the obstacles that prevent outdoor play from being used in ECE settings
