Abstract

Rock climbing has gained popularity as both a recreational activity and a competitive sport, with a growing interest in understanding the physical attributes associated with climbing performance. This study aims to investigate anthropometric characteristics among rock climbers in the Klang Valley region, focusing on differences between elite and recreational climbers. A total of 25 climbers participated in the study, comprising 10 elite climbers and 15 recreational climbers, with a mean age of 26.64 ± 4.122 years. Data were collected on various anthropometric variables, including height, weight, limb lengths, girth measurements, and body composition. Statistical analyses, including t-tests, were conducted to compare these variables between elite and recreational climbers. The results revealed significant differences in certain anthropometric characteristics, such as height and limb lengths, between the two groups. However, variables such as BMI and body fat percentage did not show significant differences. These findings underscore the importance of considering anthropometric factors in understanding rock climbing performance, while also highlighting the need for further research to explore additional factors influencing climbing proficiency. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the physical demands of rock climbing and may inform training programs and performance enhancement strategies for climbers in the Klang Valley and beyond
