Abstract
The construction industry in Malaysia has been experiencing a significant shift towards the application of innovative technologies, particularly in the realm of high-rise projects. One such technology that has gained traction is 3D printing, which offers numerous benefits. This study aims to investigate the application of 3D printing in high-rise projects and its impact on contractors in the Malaysian construction industry. The research methodology involves a comprehensive literature review, survey form with industry experts, and case studies of successful 3D printing projects in Malaysia. The study examines the current status of 3D printing application, the challenges faced by contractors, and the potential benefits and solution of incorporating this technology into high-rise construction processes. The findings of this study suggest that 3D printing has the potential to revolutionise the construction industry in Malaysia, particularly in high-rise projects. It can lead to faster construction times, increase cost effectiveness, and improve quality control. However, the study also identifies challenges to application, such as the high initial cost for specialised equipment, skilled labour, and regulatory changes. The study concludes by providing recommendations for contractors to successfully integrate 3D printing into their high-rise projects. By embracing 3D printing, contractors in the Malaysian construction industry can enhance their competitiveness, improve project outcomes, and contribute to the overall development of the nation's built environment
